Where did you grow up, and what brought you to Harrisonburg?
I grew up in Franklin and Hendersonville, TN, two bedroom communities of Nashville. After graduating from Belmont University I moved to New York City where I worked, performed and studied for 19 years, and after 5 years in New England (MA), my career path brought me to Muhlenberg! The short answer would have to be God.
How does your faith happen in your daily life?
I would have to say music is how my faith happens everyday; more specifically, practice. Practice is a life-long commitment and one done in isolation a great deal of the time, which provides a quiet, meditative and almost prayerful space to hone craft. I find practice to be an act of thanksgiving for the many gifts with which I have been entrusted.
What is a fun fact about you that may surprise people?
I studied at the Russian Academy of Music in Moscow, Russia. And more impressively, I can hum and whistle at the same time.
What’s the most inspiring part of your job?
Sunday morning worship and the incredible amount of musical talent within the congregation... and staff !!
