Mugged

A MUHLENBERG STORY

Susan is a retired Middle and High School Biology teacher who enjoyed keeping a pet boa constrictor in her classroom.

Susan grew up going to her neighborhood church and continued to attend, driving the ninety minutes one way, even after she married and moved out of the area. By 2009 the drive was getting old and Susan longed for a larger church that had more to offer. Susan had been noticing how beautiful Muhlenberg Lutheran Church looked each time she drove by and she decided to visit.

Her first Sunday she was warmly greeted. “I was mugged,” Susan said, (the practice of giving visitors a Muhlenberg coffee mug), “and that really left an impression on me.”   Muhlenberg had everything Susan was looking for, a beautiful liturgical service, outstanding music, wonderful sermons, and meaningful sacraments. Susan attended a series of classes that the pastors held off campus about asking the hard questions. “My faith has really evolved since being at Muhlenberg, Susan said. “I have lost a lot of my religiosity and gained more faith. The pastors helped me do this by telling me it was okay to question everything.”

Susan has become very involved at Muhlenberg, serving on Council, the Endowment Committee, Property Committee and the Local and Global Outreach Committee. She currently schedules and serves as a lector and also ushers on a regular basis. Susan is grateful for the community outreach that Muhlenberg does. She loves being a part of and giving back to the community at Muhlenberg.
