Local and Global Advent Giving Opportunities

As in the past, the Local and Global Outreach Ministry is offering our congregation two opportunities to help our neighbors in need with giving during the four weeks of Advent. The first will be a weekly collection of donated goods, starting with the first Sunday in Advent and continuing until Sunday, December 22. This will benefit Gemeinschaft Home, a program that offers counseling, job coaching, a model for daily living, and shelter for individuals who have recently exited incarceration.

The following is the collection schedule. Donation bins will be in the Gathering Area.

  • Week 1 (12/1) ........... Razors and full-size shaving creams

  • Week 2 (TODAY) ....... Toothbrushes and full-size toothpastes

  • Week 3 (Dec. 15)..... Bar soaps and full-size shampoos

  • Week 4 (Dec. 22)..... Composition books and pens (These are used in their group sessions.)

The second giving opportunity will be to help those affected by the many recent natural disasters. As followers of Jesus we are compelled to help our brothers and sisters in need. Thankfully, the Lutheran Disaster Response Fund is a trusted source of support to our neighbors in crisis. They provide ongoing assistance after the dust has settled. To give online go to elca.org/disaster or put your check in the offering plate with ELCA Disaster Response in the memo line.
